do you really think it's going to be as bad as they're predicting?? they're saying it's going to kill 3x as many people as the regular flu, especially children. anyone think they're blowing this up?
I have a friend who works for the county and they just had an emergency meeting about the possibility of it being a Pandemic here. We have a very high rate of cases here, so I'm taking it seriously.
It might be madatory for all public school children to get the vaccine come October.
Yes, it is going to be bad. Some experts now think it is an older virus that our grandparents have all been exposed to before, but that us and our children have no immunity to.
The problem with the vaccine for it has to do with herd immunity. Even if you give your child the vaccine for it, to keep the virus from person hopping (and mutating) you have to have herd immunity. Herd immunity doesn't occur until ~70% of all the people in the area are immune to a virus. (It's why so many people are upset that there are large portions of this country that are unvaccinated; if 50% of a school is unvaccinated then the other 50%'s vaccines are pretty much worthless.)
And there is no way that 70% of this country is going to end up vaccinated in such a short amount of time. So really, there is nothing you can do about it anyway.

I have to say that I am really worried. But, it is so hard to get a straight story.
I feel the same way, and now that I'm pregnant and they're recommending pregnant women to get the vaccine, I'm even more scared. I am afraid of the vaccine as well as the disease!
My mom is a nurse and they are preparing for the worse, but they kind of have to do this to be safe. She said last time the swine flu hit it came in the Spring, was mild over Summer, and affected the most people in the Fall... which is coming up for us!
She said it has the potential to be really bad, but it would also be much more mild than they think. I mean, people went absolutely insane this Spring when it surfaced and even though it was bad and has killed a large amount of people, it was no where near what they predicted.
My mom also told me to make sure I have plenty of Tylenol on hand because people are going to try and buy it all up again. This way if we do get that... or another sickness... we will have some on hand for fevers and such.
Is there something new about H1N1? Quinny's pedi said swine flu is being blown out of proportion and that her daughter had it. While it was a bad flu, she said it was nowhere near as bad as the hysteria is making it out to be.
Re: i'm so sick of this H1N1..
Not at all.

You mean the vaccine that they are producing and shipping before clinical trials are complete? That vaccine? who knows...
