Swollen fingers?

Does any one else have this problem?  My fingers are swollen...can't wear my rings right now.  It's been going on all weekend...sometimes they swell, sometimes they are normal.  Should I call my doctor?

Re: Swollen fingers?

  • Mine are.  I'm hoping they go back down some once the weather stays cooler.  I'm pretty sure that this is normal.

  • It is normal to get some swelling while pregnant.  I can't wear mine either.   I can't wear a couple of my ballet flats either.  I think very few women can wear their rings until the end.

Be concerned and call if it happens very fast, becomes excessive and/or starts to involve your face or your vision become blurred.

  • My hands always swell when it's hot outside. I can sometimes wear my rings, but they're snug. They were a little tight before getting pregnant though.

  • My fingers have definitely swollen. I mostly blame it on the hot weather, but I'm sure pregnancy has something to do with it. I like to take my rings off at night and put them on again after my morning shower. It was becoming difficult to take them off, and DH was concerned about eventually having to cut them off, so I put them in the jewelry box and bought a $15 silver band a size and a half larger at Walmart to hold me over the next few months.

  • Make sure you're drinking plenty of fluids, staying away from excess salt in your diet, and remaining as active as you were pre-pregnancy. All these things can help reduce the swelling in all your extremities.
