2nd Trimester

Anyone able to sleep through the night?

In the Mayo Clinic Guide, it has a section on 'frequent urination', and it says that you're supposed to get better during the second trimester.  I've still been waking up every two hours during the night to use the bathroom!  It's getting to the point where I'm tempted to just not drink anything after 3pm.

Has anyone noticed an improvement during her second trimester?  Give me some hope!

Re: Anyone able to sleep through the night?

  • I still have to get up about once a night, but its not 3 times like in the first trimester.  Hope it gets better soon!

  • I slept from midnight to six this morning. I have been falling asleep on the couch and having DH wake me up when he goes to bed. I pee then and I can usually make it until at least 4 or 5.

  • I have noticed a difference. I was getting up at 2, 4, and 6 to pee. Now I'm only getting up once around 4, and then again when I officially wake up around 7.

  • Have you guys cut back on drinking fluids at all?
  • I get up at least once a night to pee.
  • I've had a couple nights I've slept right through. I assume those are nights that I got all my water in early and stopped drinking toward bed time though. Typically I'm still up once or twice though.
  • Not much better for me.  I'm up at 11:30, 2:30, and then 5:30 (when my alarm goes off).  Sometimes, if I get off schedule a little bit I will only get up twice.

Sorry, no. I've had to get up once/night through my whole pregnancy.

Drinking fluids is even more important in your 2nd tri so I wouldn't try that. Usually when I take my pee break in the middle of the night I'm thirsty and have another gulp of water.

Around 13 or 14 wks I felt SO sick of getting up to pee it was driving me crazy. Now I'm just used to it.

My tip is to have nightlights placed along the path to the bathroom, and in the bathroom, so you don't have to turn any lights on. I can get up and pee in a half-awake state and it doesn't bother me too much anymore.

  • Mine is only once a night now (compared to three before)... it's better but it's still hard for me to get back to sleep! Good luck!
  • Sleep through the night?? HAHA!

It does change nightly for me though. Sometimes it ranges from 3 times a night or just 1.

  • I still have to get up in the middle of the night- usually twice. In the first tri- it was a lot more than that.
  • I've only ever woken up 1x per night to use the bathroom.  I just get better sleep now in general.  I woke up yesterday morning feeling like I slept like I was in a coma.  It was awesome!

  • Nope. I got up 2 times last night, when I normally only get up once. I'm hoping this will stop soon! I miss sleeping through the night! And when baby is here, that will be out the window for many years to come!

  • If I'm not waking up to pee, I'm waking up because I'm super uncomfortable.

No and I wouldn't recommend it. There were a couple of days where I didn't drink as much and I ended up being severely dehydrated. I pee all the time in the daytime but am able to only wake up once in the middle of the night. I use that time to drink another glass and take my prenatal, since I'm supposed to do it on an empty stomach, and then go back to bed.

  • Nope, sorry. I've been getting up on average 2-3 times a night to pee straight through 2nd tri. A few times, I've only had to get up once but those times are very rare. I haven't slept through the night since well before I got pregnant. But then again, I've always hardly ever been able to sleep though the night without waking up to pee at least once - I just have a tiny bladder.

  • I don't wake up to pee anymore, but sometimes when I wake up after rolling over. However, everytime I stand up I need to pee,
  • yeahhhhh idk about that.  i got up 6 times last night.  and only 'slept' from about 1145 til 5 sooooooo im there w/ you not wanting to drink after 3.... or maybe noon should be the cutoff??  haha.

  • No.  I get up at least twice a night to pee.  What's really keeping me up is that whichever leg is on the bottom starts to throb from my back condition and I have to switch sides.  It's such a pain in the butt - literally.
  • Its weird.  I didnt go to the bathroom in the middle of the night at all during the 1st tri.  Ever since about 15 weeks, i go every 2 hrs.  Hasn't gotten any better, maybe worse if anything.

  • I have had tremendous relief with peeing at night. When I was first pregnant, I got up about 3 times a night, but I sleep all night every night now. I do stop drinking liquids at about 8 though. I'm obviously lucky judging by other responses!!
  • I only sleep maybe 4 hours per night, but it's not because I have to use the bathroom, I just can't sleep.  I end up awake like Indifferent every night.
  • Just in the last week it's started to get better!  I used to have to get up every hour or two at night to pee, and now it's only once or twice!  I still have morning sickness though...

  • In the first tri I was getting up 3 times a night, now its 2 times, every once in a while I only have to get up once.  I would love to sleep through the night once every other week at this point. I guess, it's all in getting us ready for lo's arrival and the lack of sleep we will get then.
