Sleep issues (me not DS!)

Anyone else have a hard time sleeping?  I have no idea what my problem is since DS sleeps ok at night (sometimes he will wake around 4:45 ish and fuss until he falls back asleep), but I am usually up then and cannot fall back asleep.  I wake 4-5x a night just tossing and turning and it takes me forever to fall back asleep.

Our air is on, our bed is super comfy, all the lights are off, DS's monitor is turned on just so I can hear him if he cries loudly...what else am I missing?  Last week I tried taking a Tylenol PM just to get some rest and even that didn't work!  I really don't want to medicate myself to get a good night sleep but I'm thinking of going to the doctor for some Ambien or something.  I hate feeling exhausted all the time!!!  Does anyone else struggle with this?

  • Ummm, Ferber? :-)

I have a hard time falling asleep now, so I wake up bleary eyed in the am. Usually I get to fall asleep around 12-1am, DS wakes up at around 5, and I have to sneak in  a nap to catch up....and the cycle just continues.

I don't know how to fix this either. I should try Tylenol PM like you did, see if that works. Maybe Ambien will work for you...

ETA: I think having a baby has whacked out your regular sleep pattern. I just do not have the answer on how to get it back on track.

  • Yeah, I usually have to sneak a nap too, but it still isn't good rest.  I think I'm just constantly on edge waiting for DS to wake up, and I can never get truly rested.

I used to be such a good sleeper too!

  • GNC has time-release melatonin. It doesn't knock you out, but it does put you more in a sleep place.
  • Check out the book No More Sleepless Nights.  Medication is not a very good long term solution to insomnia.  I developed conditioned night wakings following of course of antibiotics a few years back.  This book we recommended by my sleep specialist.

Thank you!  Off to go google now...I don't like using medication unless it's absolutely necessary so this might be a great read!
