Infertility

vitrification

does your RE/embryologist perform vitrification during cryo?

We're going to our IVF class tonight and this is one of the topics I plan on asking about. Just wondering how common vitrification is. It seems like a *relatively* new practice.

Title Edited: I meant just vitrification, not oocyte vitrification. OOPS! Sorry :(

Re: vitrification

  • I'm not sure about oocyte vitrificaiton but my RE does do embryo vitrification during cryo.

  • My RE does both.  They vitrify embryos (and have fantastic thaw rates thanks to the practice) but they also offer oocyte vitrification for fertility preservation, especially for women gearing up for chemo and the like.  Not many clinics have the capability yet, but the improvement is amazing when compared to the old "slow freeze" technology.
