2nd Trimester

Oh, another reason I'm considering switching (Dr. Comment)...vent.

At my appointment today I had gained 3lbs so far in this pregnancy and I asked him if that was enough b/c I am really not that hungry half the time and have to force myself to eat. His response, "Oh no, it's plenty for you. When you start out above your ideal weight we recommend you only gain about 5-10lbs total."

Okay, number one, I am a size 10! I am an average person - not super skinny, but not what I would consider overweight. I'm 5'4 and have DDD boobs that weigh a ton themselves. I'm sure the "medically" ideal weight for my height is something like 120lbs, but I do not remember ever weighing that much. My personal ideal is about 145lbs...that's when I've looked my best and been most physically fit and even then I was a size 8.

Number two, everybody in DH's family has 8-10lb babies...even if I had a 7lb baby, how am I supposed to only gain 10lbs the entire pregnancy?!? That does not even seem possible!

GRRR!!! Okay, sorry, vent over.

Re: Oh, another reason I'm considering switching (Dr. Comment)...vent.

  • sadly most doctors say these insensitive things about "overweight" pregnant women... i'm definitely one of them but i'm lucky that my last doctor never said anything to me about it... plus, i've lost a total of about 15 lbs since i've been pregnant (as of 12weeks) and i'm pretty sure i'm continuing to go down...

but if you feel uncomfortable, i would DEFINITELY change doctors...

Okay, thank you!!! LOL I was like TEN pounds!?!?! Is that even POSSIBLE? I had set a personal goal of trying to keep it to 25lbs through exercise and eating as healthy as possible throughout the pregnancy. I thought that was a reasonable goal since most women I know gain somewhere around 35-40lbs.

  • I'm a little over weight and I was told by three dr. the fertility spec., ob, and peri I should gain anywhere from 25-35 lbs.
  • I am about your size (with smaller boobs). I gained 23 lbs with my first child and actually lost a few lbs with this one so far. Every "body" is different and as long as your healthy who cares about the lbs you gain! I am sure your Dr gives good medical advice but that would be a hard pill for me to swallow if he told me that!
  • I don't see where he is getting 10 pounds. They do say that if you are technically overweight when becoming pregnant they suggest 15-25 pounds. Guy sounds a little off to me!
  • Hello, Is Bella going to be her first name? I decided on Isabella for first and Mia as middle. Just being curious, hope you dont mind?

Did you mean to post this here? I am not sure, sorry! I don't know what I'm having yet, so not sure of any names.
