I had gained 2 pounds in the first 16 weeks, so the past 4 weeks is when the weight finally hit. I hesitantly got on the scale and braced for the inevitable.
The nurse sort of whispered the results to me, "You gained 9 pounds in 4 weeks. ... Are you eating a lot?"
haha...
Uhh, yes. Yes I am. I'm not gonna lie.
The doctor said 11 pounds in 21ish weeks is perfectly fine. As long as I feel fine and I'm eating healthfully, my body will let me know if it's putting on too much or too little weight.
I told my coworker who recently had a baby about the nurse comment and she said she would get little comments about weight from the nurses all the time. Anybody else experience this?

Fair enough. It was just the tone that I found odd, like "Whoa, 9 pounds!" But maybe that's just me being defensive.
Also this was the first time I had heard anything from a nurse there past weight, BP reading, and a request for urine.
The doctor's reassurance was comforting though. And this will make me rethink those after dinner ice creams though, so maybe it's a good thing!

I didn't get a nurse comment, but I had only gained about 2 pounds at each of my first couple of appointments. When I went to my last one, though (at 19w4d), I had gained about 7! I was underweight before getting pg, so it wasn't a big deal, but my OB joked with me when he first saw it in the chart and said things like, "what have you been eating?" and "someone's been in the cookie jar!" But that only put me at about 12 pounds total at almost 20 weeks, so that along with the underweight thing was fine. He did say if that was the amount I gain at every appointment, we might have a problem. I have my next one tomorrow, but I think I've only gained about 3 since then, so I should be ok:) But yeah, as long as your dr. says it's fine, don't worry about the nurse comments.
She probably could have phrased it more politely, but I wouldn't take offense to it. 11 lbs at your point in your pregnancy is completely normal, she was probably just surprised at the 9 lbs in 4 weeks. It seems like your body's way of catching up to where you should be, and you won't keep seeing 9 lb weight gains each visit, so I wouldn't put too much stock in her reaction (especially with the doctor's vote of confidence)
