2nd Trimester

is it strange that i can't tell how my LO is positioned?

i feel him kick, but i don't know which way he is facing or if he is head-down, sideways, breech etc.. is that because i have an anterior placenta, or is it because i am just not very aware of my own body?

  • I don't know what way my LO is facing. At my big u/s the tech said his head is down. But, I don't know if he has stayed that way.

  • I didn't know until recently how LO is positioned. Actually just over the weekend mostly, I could feel exactly where he was laying but was only guessing where his head and butt were-- only assuming that the strong kicking was from his feet and the tickling at the same time were him wiggling his hands (or doing something to that effect) at the opposite end. When I push on my belly I can feel where it's harder; ie where LO is.

I think that in the weeks to come, as LO gets bigger you will have a better sense of where he/she is and how they are positioned.

  • Good gosh, I have no idea which way my baby is positioned.  In the last week, he's turned into a dancing, punching, kicking, and bouncing machine and I still have no idea whether his jabs are from arm punches or head butts!  I know some women get well into the third trimester before they can distinguish how the baby is situated.

    Don't worry!!!!

  • not at this point.  Your LO is still probably doing quite a bit of moving around and changing positions.

Spinning babies has some information on "mapping" your belly if you're interested - but you wouldn't really do that till closer to the end - the last 2 months or so.

    edited to add link.

  • I can tell our LO is on my left side -- I have stretch marks on my left side (ugh) and not my right...and it feels much harder on my left side. But, I can't tell which way he's positioned other than that.

  • I have only been able (in the past week or two) to distinguish what is kicks verses what is head butts and other movements. I can also tell when baby is facing outward or inward by the feeling of the kicks. I think, just like with everything in pregnancy, that every woman is different.
  • i honestly have no idea which way my boy is laying either.. recently, i've been able to tell which side he's on by pushing on my belly.. but i can never tell which direction his feet/head are in.

  • I can't tell what's what, but I SO wish I could!!  Either way, I'm just so happy to feel her moving.  Her kicks are like little explosions of love that only I can experience!
  • At my 23rd U/S, when I finally got to find out my baby's sex...my OBGYN told us that the baby was breech and he was laying on his right side, facing the wall with one arm up beside his face and his knees together. We are hoping that the baby is turning, which I think I feel--like he's swimming around in there, but then I feel tons of kicks to my bladder, so I don't think he has turned yet! I would ask at your next ultrasound.

  • I cant tell either. My tech also said he was head down on thursday...sometimes I can tell when he is like that cause it feels really heavy, but usually I can't tell.
