and it felt like a total waste of time. I went because I've been really short of breath (walking across a room makes me super out of breath), I've been having chest pains, I'm dizzy, and I can feel/hear my heart beating fast. My OB referred me. All of this was going on pre-preg,but it's a lot worse now.
?My resting heart rate today was 97. Doctor says, "Wow, that's almost a hundred!" No kidding.
She basically said the reason I'm so short of breath is because I eat too much fast food and because pregnant women are swollen.
I'm not swollen, and I eat fast food MAYBE once a month.
?I just felt like she wasn't listening to me at all. I know I can't take medication, I was looking for more of why the heck I can't function normally. She checked my records and noticed my resting HR was 103 at a previous appointment, before the pregnancy. So she realized it wasn't a new symptom, just exaggerated.
She had me move from the chair to the exam table and listened to my heart and said, "Your heart rate is well over 100! Can you feel that?" YES! I can feel that! That's why I'm coming to see you! I can't exercise because walking around one room makes me have to bend over and gasp for air. I know this isn't normal.
Thanks for letting me vent, I am so frustrated.?
Re: Saw the cardiologist today
How frustrating! I have pretty much the same thing and every now and then my heart will add an extra beat. It goes beatbeat____beat. People refer to it as skipping beats b/c that's what it feels like but it's actually an extra beat in there.
Anyway, I had all sorts of tests done by a cardiologist about 5 years ago and they couldn't find anything. The cardiologist told me some people just have a higher resting heartrate while others have lower heartrates. I have noticed these symptoms seem to have increased since getting pregnant so my OB wants me to talk to my regular doc about it and see if she wants me to go back to the cardiologist.
I have an OB appointment today and I'm going to ask him to test me for anemia b/c it can cause shortness of breath, excessive tiredness also. Have your iron levels been checked recently? One of my co-workers had to have a blood infusion b/c her iron level was super low (and she's not even pregnant). She said she felt like she was going to have a heart attack just walking from our building to her car.
