2 month appt and tylenol?

Did you give your LO tylenol before their shots at the two month appt?  I've heard people say they did but my pediatrician never mentioned it, I need to call and ask.

 Thanks!

  • i bring the tylenol with me and the pedi tells me when to give it to them- usually when he goes to get the shots.... that way i know exactly how much to give- since the dose changes as their weight changes.

  • While at that visit the pedi gave me a sheet with the dosage for tylenol which I brought with me.  I gave it to her right after the shots when she calmed down.

  • My pedi said not to give them anything before since it can mask a fever and it's dangerous to vaccinate if they have a fever
  • My doctor told me not to give it to DD unless she needed it. She doesn't recommend giving medications to a baby if they don't absolutely need it. So we didn't give it to her and she didn't end up needing it. I'm glad we didn't just give her medication without seeing how she handled the vaccines first. With that said, we are doing an alternate schedule of vaccines so she only had two instead of the recommended five shots.

This. After they weighed DD they told me how much to give. I gave her the meds right before they gave her the shots.

  • I gave him the dose before the appointment.  It goes by weight.  I don't have my chart with me, but maybe someone on the boards who is home can tell you the correct dose for your LO's weight.

    ?

This, I take it with me and give the dosage that goes with his weight. I have given tylenol and all his shot appointments and no fever has broken yet. I also give him tylenol for the next 24 hours every four hours. Although I will not wake him at night to give it to him, but if he wakes on his on I will.?

  • Nope...my LO handled the shots just fine.  She said to give him tylenol after the shots if he had a fever or was really fussy/irritable...but we never needed to.

  • You'll want to see how much LO weighs before you give it to them.  We waited until we got home then gave him another dose 4 hours later.  He didn't seem to be in pain until about 4-5 hours after the shots...he was so happy afterwards.
  • Ours doesn't like giving meds preventatively, she said to only give it if he got a fever or seemed uncomfortable/fussy afterwards.
