Good Lord MIL!!!

Last night DH and I went out to dinner with his entire family (3 sisters and their spouses and his parents) for my BIL's birthday dinner. We were sitting at a long table with 5 people on each side. I was at one end and MIL is at the other end on the opposite side of the table. Right after we all ordered she bellowed across the table "Do you have any stretchmarks yet?" I couldn't believe she was doing that in the middle of the freaking restaurant! I just nodded and said something to the effect that it comes with pregnancy. For heaven's sake I am sure my BIL's all appreciate knowing this about me.

  • Wow!  You had a nice reaction. I don't know if I'd be able to get anything out.  :)

  • That's terrible!  I would have (in an ideal world where I'm much cleverer and braver) bellowed back "not yet, but would you like to hear about my hemmrhoids??"

This would have been an awesome response!

  • Be thankful you don't have dinner with my family. There is no such thing as an inappropriate comment - even in the middle of a restaurant. For my mom's birthday we went to dinner and my uncle (whose wife just had a baby) pointed out the items on the menu that would be good if I was suffering from constipation. My brother then commented that my bowel movements were never normal even before being pregnant...and before I could answer the two of them were off on some tangent. I'm used to them by now lol. (I should add that my uncle is only 7 years older than me so he's more like an annoying big brother than an uncle)
