2nd Trimester

Ultrasound question((kinda long, I ramble sometimes...)

So my "big"(if I wasn't a cheater and when to a 3D ultrasound place at 16 weeks 5 days to find out the sex and stuff before DH left for two months) ultrasound is on friday.. And the lady whom I talked to on the phone to set up my ultrasound at the hospital told me to drink only water until then(this was, oh, almost two weeks ago) she told me no caffeine(understandable), no sugars, just water and to have a full bladder. Of course, I haven't been sticking to that(I've had a half cup of coke every now and then to help deal with upset stomach and heartburn)... but I wanted to stick to it this week because it made more sense....

On to the important part, she told me no sugar. But if I drink ONLY water/too much water, it makes me sick. Now would some kool-aid really be that bad? I dont normally use that much sugar(which is why my husband and I have different kool-aid pitchers)

Thanks for reading... and again, I'm sorry it's so long...

Re: Ultrasound question((kinda long, I ramble sometimes...)

  • Due to a high risk pregnancy with my first, I had about a zillion ultrasounds and was never told once to avoid beverages with sugar in it.  I'm not sure why she would say that.  Did you ask them why?

  • Also, if concerned with Sugar, use Splenda instead.
  • I wonder why she said no sugar?  I'm a tech and that doesn't make any sense to me!

No... The hospital I go to is a military hospital and there for cares for all the military personal and families on the island and are busy.. I just wanted off the phone because I had been on hold for half an hour just for a transfer from ob/gyn to the ultrasound in labor and delivery.

Who knows, but if it seems to make as much sense to everyone else as it does to me. I'm totally having some kool-aid then. LOL

  • i have never heard of this!

p.s. please don't use splenda or any other artificial sweetner, it is a big no no!

I would think she meant the day of only. There is no reason to avoid sugar or even caffeine for two weeks prior to an ultrasound.
  • no idea why sugar matters really for a regular US. However if all you are drinking is sugary soda, juice and kool aid that is a bigger problem. You will gain more weight and all that sugar is unncessary. Flavor your water or try sugar free drinks. good luck
