Success after IF

smaller baby in the ergo?

DH and I went to pick up an Ergo carrier yesterday and got the infant insert and everything - and the outside of the box said newborn - whatever weight.  But when I read the instructions, it said it was "ideal" for infants 7lbs. and up.

I haven't tried to put one of my babies in it yet since I was home alone much of the evening and I definitely want a spotter handy, but will this work for my smaller 5lb babies?

Thanks!

Re: smaller baby in the ergo?

  • I wouldn't do it for a smaller baby. I didn't start using my Ergo until my kid was about 3 months. Until then, I used a carrier that carried her closer and in a womb-like position. We used a My Baby Nest, but others used a Moby wrap.  I just like having more control over how close she was to me, which is harder, IMO, in an Ergo.

That being said, I love my Ergo.

  • I don't know, I honestly couldn't figure out the infant insert! We tried it and it felt like DS would fall out!
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • the infant insert is a joke! I'd go with a moby or bjorn (which we loved!) the ergo is great when the baby is much older.
