Registry Question...

ok...here goes:

I feel like I am having a girl, we won't find out until Sept. 22, but I just have this feeling it's a girl...I don't like all the pink girly stuff, so I found some decor that will do for either a boy or girl and is perfect for our family! It's kinda on the expensive side and I can't find the same thing, or a different brand but about the same thing anywhere else for a cheaper price....do I still put it on there?? I really don't like for folks to spend their hard-earned money on things that they won't use(I'm kinda strange about that) and we just got married...so it's like they are getting hit twice in a short amount of time. Plus, what do I do about how many items to put on a registry? I have found several items that I like different brands of (i.e. car seats, diaper bags) would it be ok for me to pick more than one of the items and have them choose either which one they can afford or like better??  I have never done this, I didn't even register anywhere for our wedding...can you help? What is "registry etiquette"??? Thanks in advance for all your help!!

Re: Registry Question...

  • i think you should register for what YOU want for YOUR baby ... and if you'd like gender specific things and you're going to find out i advise waiting until you find out before you register ... because sometimes "feelings" can be wrong and then you'd have to change your registry

  • If you want the bedding and it is gender neutral, register for it. The car seats, etc just pick one and register otherwise you might end up with multiple car seats, etc. And I've found that 50% or less of people actually shop on a registry so I use it mainly for a list for myself and if people buy off it, great!

Just don't double register for items unless you want more than one of the item!

  • I?definitely?wouldnt register for 2 of the same items because that will really confuse people, besides I dont think you really want other people picking out those bigger more important things. You still have some time to do some research to figure out which brands you like exactly. I dont think their is a right or wrong amount of items to put on your?registry?(although target?recommends?75, but I couldnt find 75 things there that I wanted to register for).
  • Chances are stores are going to be coming out with a TON of new things since the seasons are changing. Honestly I would probably just wait until you find out boy/girl and then register. You can still register gender neutral but like I said you will probably have different options at that time to choose from.
  • When I registered at BRU this weekend, the lady told me to register for 5 items per each guest invited to my shower. Ok, that's 150 items. No thanks. I know some people won't buy off my registry at all (clothes, etc.) and others will pitch in and buy a bigger ticket item with a few other people. I have 50 items on my registry and I think that's plenty. I'll have my mom keep an eye on it after shower invites go out, just to make sure I don't need to add more items.

I wouldn't register for multiple items of the same thing -- you might end up getting 2 car seats, 2 strollers, etc. Pick the one you like the best and register for that. As far as more expensive items, do you have people coming to your shower that you know will spend that kind of money? For example, I know my co-workers always go in together and buy a bigger ticket item for baby showers. I don't feel bad putting a $180 travel system or $130 swing -- I have other member's of my family who I know will do the same. There's no point in registering for things you don't think anyone will buy -- you'll end up getting 50 blankets and 79 sleepers.

  • My family tends to go in on things together, so... we did not have a problem picking the one thing that we wanted and putting it on our registry.  We have family that can spend and family that does not have it to spend so we made sure that there was a variety of things and prices on our registry.  We are doing price shopping to get the best deal for everyone.  Somethings we like better at BRU and some things are better at Target so we are using both places to register.  For example we like the pack and play selection much better at Target so we are getting that from there but our stroller from BRU.

Register for what you need and a few things that you want people will get you what they want to anyway.....

  • as for the decor, get what you like.  if ppl buy it, great.  if not, you'll end up returning some things or getting gift cards, and then YOU can buy it.  i would not register for 2 different bigger ticket items (car seats, PNPs, etc) - it might confuse ppl.  just pick the one you really, really like.  if you're stuck, put everything you want on your registry and then when your shower gets closer, review the registry again and take off some things that you think you could do w/o.
  • It's also worth putting big ticket items on your registry at places like BRU and Target, where they'll give you a 10% off completion coupon -- so if no one ends up buying the item for you, you can use the discount to buy it yourself.
