Shower Question

What is an appropriate number of people to invite to a shower? I'm having 3 and am trying to split people up accordingly, but what's a good number?

Re: Shower Question

  • Really depends upon your venue limitations and resources of your hosts.

  • I agree with around 20, but my family just my mom's side is 29 women. So I can't avoid a larger number.
  • 45 people were invited.  30 will probably be able to make it.
  • It really depends on the norm for your area and how many people you are close with.

Around here, it's common for showers to have 75+ guests (I'm drawing the line at 40 because the alternative is too overwhelming).  Where I grew up 12-15 guests was the norm.

  • I don't think there is one "appropriate" number.  I think the more important issue is how well you know these people.  Don't invite your 3rd cousin if you haven't spoken to her in 10 years.  Same goes for friends, don't invite college friends who you only keep in touch with over Facebook.

Invite people that you see and/or talk to on a fairly regular basis.  (Obviously your mom might have her own guest list of her close friends too.)  I think for most people that number will probably fall between 20-40 depending on the size of your family and social network.
