Too many burpcloths?

I have registered for 2 packs of the 12-count cloth diapers to use as burpcloths.  & I have about 5 other burpcloths at home that were gifts.

Should I knock that down to only 1 pack?  I can't imagine needing 30 burp cloths, but maybe that's just me being ignorant.

Re: Too many burpcloths?

  • We have about 25. It seems everyone threw a burpcloth in with their gift. I figure we will use them and it's better than having like 10 and needing to wash them every other day.

  • No, you will need a lot.  You will potentially use one with every feeding and I'm sure it will get spit up on at almost every feeding so you'll be going through a few a day at least.

  • I dreamed last night that I received like, 100 burp clothes at a shower and in the end never got the car seat.

    This is my anxiety.

  • I'm of the opinion you can't have too many burp clothes.  Comes from babysitting & daycare experience.  Especially if you end up with a barfer...
  • I recieved a ton of birth cloths at my shower and ended up putting a few  in my car and at my mother's / MIL house just incase.
  • I'd keep 'em.  From what I hear, you end up using them for all sorts of things instead of just spitup.  They're not expensive and the more you have, the less you have to wash!  Ha!

  • I have one 12 pkg of cloth diapers for burp cloths, and I think that will be enough.   Especially since you already have 5 I think one 12 pkg would be plenty.  If you end up needing more, you can always buy more later.
  • I would probably just register for the single 12 pack.  Cloth diapers are super absorbent so you will probably using the same one for several feedings.  We only have 8 burp cloths, but we are also cloth diapering so I can easily dip into our stash of 32 prefolds if needs be.
  • I registered for about that many too, plus about 4 mattress pads and 10 crib sheets. Apparently I'm assuming this kid will burp up on everything, shiit out his diper every night, and I won't be doing laundry!

Can you keep any extra packs you get in the package just in case and return them later if needed?

  • We have tons of them too. I figure even if we end up not needing that many for baby, they are useful as rags for cleaning the house too....
  • thanks, y'all!
  • It will really just depend on if your baby is a barfer or not.  My daughter was.  We had like 12-15 burp cloths and that was enough.  I will suggest using the flannel burp cloths (Gerber makes them) rather than the cloth diapers.  The flannel ones work SO MUCH better!

  • You'll want to keep a few in the diaper bag, a few in the nursery for middle of the night feedings, a few where you frequently nurse, etc. And you probably don't want to wash them every single day.

So I'd say you have plenty. ;-) Lots of drool, spit-up and leaking breasts during feedings (to save your clothes, tuck one under your breast while nursing).

This!  My sister also keeps them on hand for when the kids (who are 3 and 6) have colds and they take them to bed as their snotties...Instead of using like 300 tissues.
