Honestly, I just called him up & said, "Look, I don't want to be morbid, but this has to be done." We explained that they are the best ones we know to raise Harrison in the same way we would, with the same values & home life. But we told them to take their time deciding, since it was a huge decision & that feeligns would not be hurt if they declined.
They accepted, so now it's onto an attorney to right the will & make them conservators of our estate.
We just did our will and named my cousin as guardian. I pretty much called her afterward and said (half) jokingly that if my H and I were to go down in a fiery crash, she was going to be a mommy. It's such a morbid topic that I could only really bring it up through humor. Our situation was pretty easy though because she and I are very close and there was no question she'd be the one. I guess it depends on your relationship with your brother & SIL.
We chose my best friend and her husband. I just called her and asked and told her to talk it over with him and get back to me. She said she felt honored.
Re: Guardians
We chose my brother & SIL as well.
