We just had DS's toys out. Most of the kids at his party were very close to his age so his toys were appropriate. The kids were just running around playing with what we had. We did not rent any anything. No clowns...Nope don't like them and DS is too young.
We had the party at my parents house and there is a huge playground behind their house (they live in a development) so we didn't have to do much. We also played musical chairs b/c we had a DJ. There were 2 rounds, one with kids under 4 (the parents played with them) and another with the older kids.
I'm not planning any kind of games or anything. I'm sticking to the Very Hingry Caterpillar theme, but other than that, nothing fancy. Plus we have a pool and hopefully guests will still find it warm enough to go swimming at ike's party )
We're doing a monkey theme tomorrow. Nothing fancy and no games. Just laid back and eatin up some BBQ that my dad has smoked all day. Colton has several cousins that are around his age and they will be there so I'm sure they will all play or something.

We are doing this same exact thing. Curious George themed party with BBQ and cake. We just wanted a simple party because I want to enjoy it as well and not have to worry about the planning executing of things.
Re: 1st Birthday Party Ideas
Activities equaled:
Oohh and Ahh over how cute my DD is.
Eat food
Sing Happy Birthday
Eat Cake
Watch cute kid open presents
I would never get a clown because I hate them, but I think a 12 month old would hate them as well. Games are not needed IMO! Keep it simple!
