2nd Trimester

Anyone else done nothing for the baby?

Hi all, I'm 20 weeks, we just found out the sex on Friday, and I am starting to freak out b/c we haven't done anything to get ready for this baby!  DH starts FT work AND FT grad classes next week and I'm really nervous we won't get anything done. We have stuff mentally planned out. but nothing executed.

Is anyone else in this boat? I'm not sure why we haven't done anything -- maybe we were just waiting to find out the gender? It's a girl, btw. :)

Re: Anyone else done nothing for the baby?

  • Congrats on your baby girl :)

Don't worry, my husband and I have only gotten two onesies for our little boy. We still have plenty of time :)

  • I haven't done anything yet.  Although I kind of feel like there's not a lot I can do before we find out.

    Congrats on having a girl!

  • Congrats on your baby girl. We don't plan to start anything for the baby until around 20 weeks, that's when we'll find out the gender. So you guys just starting doesn't sound like your behind.

  • Congrats on a little girl!!!

We haven't done anything. I bought a Pooh blanket the day I found out I was pregnant and I registered online yesterday. Other than that... nadda.

  • all we've done is registered... there's time for the rest. congrats and enjoy!
  • I haven't done one thing besides register and that was just yesterday.  Now that we are past the half-way mark it's time to get a move on it!
  • HA! I'm looking at the other tickers on this post and fear I may be the farthest along who hasn't done anything. Not even an outfit!

DH and I have to finish even clearing out the spare room before we can think about nursery furniture and painting. But to be fair, we also don't have much to work with financially at the moment until I get back to work. School's here don't start until this week and I'm a supply teacher (substitute)...so it's down to whenever I get the call.

  • Congrats on your girl!

We haven't done anything yet either.  We have pretty much all our big-ticket items left over from DS, so I'm just waiting to find out if it's boy or girl to get little things (and maybe a few big things if it's a girl, like new bedding).

  • About 2w ago we bought a few things at BRU, and we went to a HUGE 2nd hand baby sale on Saturday.  Other than that we've done nothing.  I finally ordered the cribs late last week, but for now the small amount we've bought has just piled in their room.
  • Yesterday was my first visit to BRU and that was only to scope out which one (there are 2 in my area) is the best to register at! DH was busy, so one of my girlfriends went with me, then DH and I are going next weekend together to register.

We have done nothing else but buy a few Phillies outfits when we are at the ballpark on the weekends! But, we are waiting for a bank to accept our offer on a house, so the house we are in now, is not where we will set up our LO's nursery, hopefully!

I did, however, get LO on a waiting list for daycare last week, good places near me fill quickly!

I am not worried though, yet! I know it will all get done!

  • I've done nothing and I'm not too worried.  A girl I work with is due Oct 10 and still doesn't have furniture!
  • We have a bunch of clothes that people have given us. We haven't gone through them yet.

We bought a pack n play from our neighbors.

We"ve barely started looking at names.

  • You'll be totally fine. The only thing we've done besides obsess over whether the baby is male or female is buy some little socks. We've also talked about names and nursery decor stuff, but that hardly counts.

Unless you want to do something very elaborate with the nursery, you shouldn't be stressed at all!

The "nursery" is still our office - furniture needs to be moved out, closet needs to be built, baby furniture needs to be ordered.  The one good thing is that the room is freshly painted a neutral color and we're planning to leave it be. I'm not very concerned.  I know it will all come together in the next couple of months.

  • THanks for all the positive thought! I think I am starting to stress b/c DS#1 was early and though we physically had everything, it was basically in a pile in the nursery when my water broke. My mom and aunt set everything up in one day while I was in the hospital!

And, I had a dream last night that my water broke early AGAIN and we weren't ready. :)

AND, DH is a teacher so we really can't buy anything until he starts getting paid in a few weeks. I guess now that I know the gender I am itching to get things done!

  • There isn't really a lot you can do before finding out the gender (if you're finding out). I didn't have much done until my u/s. At 20 weeks I gave my self the deadline of 30 weeks and I am getting everything done in that time.
  • I think its normal to wait till after 20 weeks to really start preparing. I am 18 weeks and all I have done is brought one sleeper, some bibs and one bottle. I go to my big US next week so once we know the gender we will take it from there.
  • I have not done a single thing.  Have not even purchased any maternity clothes or register.  My shower is not until January so I don't plan to register until about November (around 25-30 weeks) believe it or not.  Also - I will be buying the furniture around that time as well and work on the nursery around 30 weeks.

  • Nothing.  I have bought one clothing item.  I haven't even told my family yet.  Maybe that will get me going?
  • Here's what we've done:

-Found (by chance) a $10 crib at thrift store, and managed to put it together without any instructions.

-Did a maternity/L&D tour at hospital

-I talked with shower Hostess and have picked a date in Nov.

That's all!  Eeep.  Starting to think about a registry since we want to get invitations out in the next month.  Need to paint the nursery soon.

  • no worries! i didn't start to purchase anything until after 20 weeks. I also waited to do my registry until after our "big" ultrasound.
