i thought i'd turn on a nice soothing nat geo show for dd. (she's teething like crazy). it was "in the womb" and we tuned in right as a cat was giving birth. yikes. so not ready for labor...
the preview for the next episode was a shark giving birth. and they said sharks in utero have to eat their siblings to survive. so only one can be born. i turned it off right as they showed a fetus shark chomping it's sibling. ![]()
Re: watched "in the womb" tonight
Holy cow! I didn't know that!
What a nice, relaxing show to wind down on. ;-)
The shark one was a little creepy, but the kangaroo was AWESOME! My DH was watching this one when I came into the living room. He had already watched the housecat/lion episode and we watched the shark/kangaroo together. He was totally into it. He was like, "See, babe, you think you have it rough at 40 weeks? The shark has to deliver 14 babies after a 50 week gestational period."
My response, "Yeah, but the kangaroo gives birth to their baby at 4 weeks." The baby roo climbs into the pouch and continues to develop. Then, the mom kangaroo has sex again and another egg gets fertilized. It gets put into this suspended state of fertilization in case the one that's already in the pouch doesn't survive. It was so freakin' cool!
