2nd Trimester

24 hours

I have had heartburn for past 24 hours and nothing seems to work. It is still going strong.  I have had only had three hours sleep.  I can not wait until 4:00 (when I am off work).  I called in sick to my second job, so I can try to get some sleep.  Tell me ladies, what has worked for you?

Re: 24 hours

  • A couple of tums and a big drink of cold water usually works for me. I have really bad acid reflux so I'm constantly popping tums. Another remedy I've heard of is a spoonful of honey. I know it sounds weird and I know some people don't like to eat honey while they're pregnant but I know people who swear by it if you get really desperate.

  • Zantec is safe to take while pregnant.  Hope it goes away soon!
  • This is really weird but I have only had luck with watermelon bubble gum!  Something about the gum triggering saliva (which is a natural antacid) creation.  Heartburn is horrible but pretty much as soon as I pop a piece of gum in my mouth it goes away for a few hours.

Good luck and I hope you feel better!!

  • a glass of milk and tums usually does the trick - the milk is a base which neutralizes the acid.

Milk is acidifying.  Don't drink milk expecting to get any acid reflux relief.  My mother in law is a dietician, and my husband has chronic GERD, we have to watch everything he eats, and he takes Nexium everyday.
