Low motility

My husband has low motility, I was wondering what other ppl have gone though, and what we should possibly expect and possible costs...  Thanks!!

Re: Low motility

  • we have low motility and morphology. We started with IUIs right after dx, and have been told to move on to IVF or Donor sperm after this IUI if it doesn't work.

Our IUI cycles have been $1100+ per cycle and we ae totally OOP.

  • Low motility was our main problem, followed by low morph, and exteremly low testosterone. DH's motility was at only 3% at one point (50% or above is normal). We worked with a male inferility urologist and DH was put on clomid first and that didnt work then moved on to hcg injects...and after 4 months is started improving his numbers.

Depending on who low it is, I would talk to your RE and ask about a male infertily uro and which treatment is going to work best for you.

After we got DH's sperm decent (at 36% molitily, so still below normal), we started with IUI's. # 3 did the trick. We paid around 770 per cycle, without meds. So there is hope!

  • Thanks ladies, I have been facing a lot of frustration with ppl and thier  'advice' and the situation, and when we found out there was an issue I was happy they found something and we were not just told to 'relax'.  Although the more I read the more I become concerend that it is going to a harder road than I first though.  Thank you for your stories :)

  • My DH also has low motility -- the other numbers are normal. He had 3-5% motility and then had surgery to repair a varicocele. 3 months after surgery his motility was 10%, and 5 months post surgery up to 15%. We're hoping it continues to improve.

Has your DH had more than one SA? Just to make sure the first wasn't a lab error...

We are starting with IUI's and hoping to get lucky. Our old RE didn't seem too optimistic that it would work, but also didn't give us the IVF speech either. We're now switching to a new RE and hoping he has a definite plan for us.

One good thing is that the sperm washing they do to prepare a sample for IUI's can often improve the motility. That's what we're hoping for!

    Good luck!
