Infertility

1st consult with RE on Tuesday- what to expect?

DH and I are finally meeting with a specialist on Tuesday for the first time.  We've completed all the paper work & forms for them- wow, that took a lot of time!  What should we expect at our first appt?  Will they want to do further testing?  Or put a new plan in place?

Background info.  DH: SA- normal.  Me: bloodwork- all normal. HSG:  only 1 tube visible.

Re: 1st consult with RE on Tuesday- what to expect?

  • Ours went over our medical history, what tests had been done, what tests the RE recommended (we hadn't done an HSG yet), and what steps he recommended we take. Overall, it was very informative, and gave us a good roadmap to determine what steps the RE felt we needed to take and in what order.  We also found out what (diagnostic) procedures our ins would cover.

  • Ours was a lot of talking. We went over our history, and since we had not done a lot of testing yet, the RE ordered lots of tests. Then we went over the results (unexplained) at our second appointment. It wasn't until our third appointment that we decided on a plan. Things may go a bit more quickly for you since you've had a lot of testing already. If the RE doesn't have those results, I would bring copies of the results of the tests you have had. Best of luck!

Surprise! Baby #4 is due in March!
  • My RE went over medical history and since my OB referred me straight to the RE rather than doing any testing herself we had a plan when we walked out to do all the initial bloodwork, sono and an HSG, as well as a SA for H.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • Thanks ladies!  I've got copies of everything that we've had done so far.  I'm hoping that further testing won't be necessary and that we can put a plan in place.  We're both so ready to move forward!
