I saw below that Hughes gives Holly puffs and cheerios at 7ish months. When can I start this? Allie is soo curious in what I am eating and always wanting some. Maybe if I could do puffs and cheerios sometime soon, she'd love it?
I would definitely get her some puffs - J played with them for quite a while before they actually made it into his mouths. I'd start with puffs - cheerios are a little harder to get down because they don't dissolve instantly (like puffs do).
We started puffs right before she turned 6 mos (started with just 2-3 on her highchair tray at a time), and cheerios about a week ago. We also have recently started giving her pieces of green beans, soft canned fruit (like pears or peaches), etc. This weekend I started giving her big pieces of frozen whole wheat bagels to gnaw on. She loves them.
Of course I'm not a doctor (haha) but I'd think around 6-7 months would be the recommended age at which to start puffs and purees. I think from 4-6 mos. is just rice cereal and oatmeal.
I can't wait for DD to start playing with the fun solids!
I'd say once they've really gotten the hang of purees and even thick purees, then you could try the puffs and/or cheerios. I would try puffs first since they dissolve very easily, but cheerios don't and I would worry about choking. I would say 5 mos old is too young to try puffs or cheerios, but I think it all depends on how well they are eating solids. DD did really well with thick purees at 6-7 mos,but still managed to choke on a goldfish at 8 mos.

Allie does great with her fruits and veggies, we started them at 4 months. She loves them and eats a whole container, or even 2, at a time. Maybe we'll try some puffs. Is there a gerber kind?
So far we have only done puree and the baby oatmeal. I am just not sure on the puffs yet because it said they should sit up/crawl. I did however try Mum Mums last week since they said for as soon as baby starts solids, and she really likes them, they dissolve right away.
