I went out to dinner with a friend of mine last night and she was talking about how the career she has isn't really her passion. She said she always wanted to be a vet, but was for whatever reason, never really got there.
So, my question for you is are you doing what you always thought you would doing? Or is there something else you would have like to have done as a career, but for whatever reason never got there?
Re: career poll
I'm halfway there ... I've always wanted to be a writer, and I am a newspaper writer. But my biggest dream is to be an accomplished novelist -- and be on Oprah (but shh, don't tell my secret dream!).
I went to a psychic for fun once about 10 years ago and he was spot on. He said I have a pile of notebooks ::this high:: and that my first novel would be dedicated to my first child, a daughter. Here's to hoping for both!

Fvck no. I'm an exec assistant. It's a nice job: I like my boss and coworkers, I like the location, I make decent pay and I have plenty of time to bump during the day. I have no real complaints about my job.
I wanted to be a special events planner for Children's Memorial in Chicago. It's a hard field to crack into.
I'm not sure I ever had a dream job. When I was little I wanted to be an interior designer, but as I got older, I realized that I don't do math, so that was out. I have a love for languages, and wanted to do something in International Relations for awhile, and the idea still absolutely intrigues me. I switched to an English major sophomore year though.
Then after college, I couldn't find a job, so I worked where I had all through high school and college for a year. I always said I wouldn't be a teacher. When the place I was working closed, I ended up getting my Master's in Ed. lol I am now a high school English teacher. I have since found my passions lie in writing and in education. Who knows if I'll be a teacher forever, but I do believe I'll be somehow involved in education.
very interesting stories ladies!
As for myself, I knew i wanted to either be a teacher or a doctor. My freshman year of college I decided to try majoring in pre-med. Well, after my first chemistry test I got 18/100 and after a ton of extra credit I barely passed the class with a C- I decided that I ddin't want to be a dr. that badly. So, I went into teaching. I do love teaching, although it has been a very difficult road looing for that perfect classom. At any rate, I enjoy what I do and look forward to going to work.

I wanted to be either a vet, a surgeon or an attorney.
I am a currently unemployed paralegal.
Sometimes, when I'm being nostalgic I weep for my dream of being a physician. ( I used to read the medical encyclopedia as a kid lol) I wonder what might have been.
But then reality sets in and I realize that I never could have completed the long years of school required to be an attorney or doctor. I'm a smart girl but I always lacked the discipline for school, I barely finished my undergrad degree.
In my adult life I also realize that I never would have made it as a vet since I don't know how I would last having to put the family pet down. I'm way too sensitive toward animals.

Growing up I always wanted to be an accountant, then I took accounting 2 in college and that changed my mind. Now i'm a logistics officer in the army and I never would have thought in a million years that I would end up in the military.
Needless to say it's not my dream job and I hope to get out soon and get any 9-5 office, desk job, where I can wear my own clothes, don't have to get up at the asss crack of dawn to run 5 miles, don't have to stay a certain weight, or work weekends, that pays me at least half of what I'm making now.

I wanted to be either a writer or an attorney. Right out of college I worked as a paralegal for a year to see if I wanted to take the plunge and invest another 3 yrs and a ton of money in law school. By that time DH and I were engaged and he was offered a job in TX that required us to move. I had to quit my paralegal job which worked out great as I was miserable and worked insane hours. When we moved here I sort of fell into a job as an admin. asst. I would not call it a "career" or a "calling" but it is a low stress job with regular hours and good pay. I have always been a little jealous of DH as he knew what he wanted to do in life at the age of 4-5 and he actually does that for a living now.
Yes - I am a NICU nurse. I love my job....I also have a Master's degree in Nursing that I am currently not using...but I wouldn't have it any other way right now. I wanted to be done with my MSN prior to having children, & that has worked out well.
If I liked math better I'd become a pharmacist....I loved pharmacology in nursing school!!!
