Lanolin = itchy?

Has anyone else had this problem? My nipples are really needing something (starting to get sore) but every time I put this on them I itch like crazy.  I'm assuming I'm allergic to it - is that common? What is the alternative that I don't have to wash off before LO eats?

Re: Lanolin = itchy?

  • You can definitely be allergic to lanolin, a lot of people are. You know, like some are allergic to latex or whatever.

  • Ugh sorry J.  I've been using Green Goop from Jillian's Drawers. Good stuff.  The lanolin and wool breast pads have been an itchy no go for me.

  • I like the Earth Mama Angel Nipple Cream.  You don't have to wash it off before feedings and it doesn't contain lanolin.

  • Motherlove Nipple Cream. You can get it at Whole Foods. You don't have to wash it off before nursing and it is nice and smooth.

  • I'm pretty sure Lanolin is derived from wool-- that may explain the allergy :)
