2yo. Pain when chewing. What could it be?

Law has been screaming and crying every time he tries to bite into or chew anything today.  It came on pretty suddenly and Tylenol doesn't seem to help.  He grabs his jaw/ear and says his ear hurts -- but it's only when he's eating or drinking.  He's talking fine.

His glands don't seem swollen and he doesn't have a fever.

He already has his 2 year molars.  Are there other teeth he should be getting? Or does it sound like an ear infection?

  • Does he have allergies? Drainage or fluid on the ear can make the jaw hurt.

  • I would think EI with the swallowing.  Is he hurting when he lays flat on his back?  Maybe he chipped a tooth and is sensitive to hot or cold?

  • Does he have a stuffy nose?  Tooth pain can be a sign of sinus infection.  Or, maybe ear infection?  Poor guy :(

  • Watch for other symptoms of hand foot and mouth disease.  My daughter had this a couple of months ago and a sore mouth was the first symptom she presented with.

I hope she feels better soon!
