Infertility

I'm so sorry I didn't respond to either of your posts yesterday!  I was so tired between getting up at 5:30 for my appointment and then going to a funeral soon after that I napped and didn't really check the boards.

I'm glad to see that your HSG went really well!  It's so nice when something turns out to be nothing compared to what you thought it was going to be in your head.  :)  I'm happy that your "plumbling" looked good too.  :)  It's always great when  you get good news!

My appointment went wonderful, my bloodwork not so much.  We saw the babies and they're both doing great.  Measuring 9w1d and 9w0d (I was 9w5d) which is about average for me.  I'm pretty consistantly 4-5 behind.  Their heartbeats are 181 and 183 too, which Dr. M told us was perfect for 9-10 weeks.  One of the babies was all curled up, but the other one was totally splayed out and posing for us.  We were watching him (with that medical intern in with us to see the ultrasound) and the baby wiggled it's little butt back and forth like it was doing a little jig. lol  It was so, so cute and the intern said, "WHOA!" lol

I'm officially released, but I have to go back on Monday now because my hcg (beta) went from 50k+ to 41k.  Dr. M thinks it might just be that I peaked and now I'm declining slightly, which is totally normal in pregnancy, I might just be a tad early.  The babies looked great to him, so he's not really worried, he just wants to double check my hcg again Monday to make sure it's not still nosediving.

So are you going to keep trying for a few more months and then look into IUI's or are you going to try those now?

  • Hi!  No need to be sorry!  I'm sorry to hear you had to go to a funeral...  Sad  But...that is so great that you got to see/hear? the heartbeats and that they're strong!  Hopefully your beta number isn't an issue and you'll get some reassurance with your next blood draw!

That's too funny that you saw the same intern.  I honestly didn't care if someone else came in the room...I was a little surprised when I saw him though!  lol...Just not what I expected (I guess I thought he'd be a little older?  I don't know!)  Very nice though, and he asked some questions while we were in there about my test so it was good to hear the answers to those even though I wasn't the one asking them!

As for what we're doing now...DH has his 2nd SA on Monday.  Once THOSE results come back, I'm assuming we'll kind of sit down with Dr. M. again to kind of map out what we want to do from here.  At our consultation he told us it's always a good idea to come up with a plan of how many cycles we're willing to try one thing before moving on to something else, etc.  So...I think we're going to continue trying on our own for a couple more months at least.  Then we'll look at IUI (no meds...yet).  I don't know that we've thought beyond that point...And this is all of course dependent on the results of DH's 2nd SA.  If the results are worse than the 1st one, we may move up the IUI plan a bit.

Congrats again on your good news!!  (Is it standard for the RE to keep you as a patient until you're about 10 weeks?  Or is that more because you ended up with twins?  I had thought I remembered him saying 8 weeks, but not sure if I'm just making that up!)

It took 44 cycles, just over 3 years, 6 failed IUI's in MI, and 1 round of IVF at CCRM to get our BFP!

    Beta #1 (9dp5dt) = 206, Beta #2 (11dp5dt) = 438
    1st u/s @ 6w5d = 11/11/11 = ONE little bean! HB 120bpm!

  • It's not typical at all to be kept until 10 weeks.  Normally at 8 weeks they'll release you but since I had miscarried at 6.5 weeks last time and I had a scare where there was very little growth between 6w1d and 7w1d, he kept me longer to confirm that it was just a measuring issue.  You do get to hear the heartbeat once they find it.  We couldn't really distinguish it from static until about 8 weeks, but we hear it very clearly now.  On my blog, the second image after the actual ultrasounds is their heartbeat and you hear it while they record the waves, then they get the actual BPM from there.  :)

We were totally shocked at how young the intern looked too.  We talked to him a little bit after the ultrasound and found out that he's studying molecular genetics.  I guess he's been doing more work in looking at the DNA of embryos and he's exploring possibly becoming an embryologist.  He's gotta be insanely smart, even if he looks about 18. lol

I think Dr. M is really big on plans, which was nice since I'm a huge planner.  Hopefully your second SA comes back better, but if it doesn't at least you have a good idea of how you'd like to move forward and have most of the testing out of the way so you can do it when you're comfortable.  :)

Good luck on the results!  :)  I'll keep my eyes open for a post about them hopefully next week.
