3rd Trimester

stripped membranes?

I don't know what this means and it sounds painful.  Please help me and explain. TIA

Re: stripped membranes?

  • It's similar to an internal, except the doc uses their finger(s) to separate the amniotic sac from your cervix/uterus without breaking your water.  It helps start labor in some cases, but it's not a guarantee.

  • It hurts but its not horrible pain...I had it done Monday 8-17 and I went into labor  about 12 hours later and gave birth on 8-18.

  • definately uncomfortable, but not horrible.  I had this done with DS, and it did NOTHING.  My friend who had a baby in April had it done and went into labor that night.
