Dumb ? about egg quality

Okay, I apologize in advance if this is a really dumb question.
I have been researching different "natural" ways to improve egg quality / response to IVF stims.  Currently, I am doing daily wheatgrass shots because I have read different things online about how it improves egg quality.  But...... I thought all of our eggs were present at birth.... how does something like wheatgrass improve the quality of our eggs?  Its not like they are developing and need assistance to develop in a quality manner.

No flames please.

  • I have to be honest... I really have no idea!

I hope someone can tell us!

  • I've heard that about wheatgrass, but I would have to agree that you are born with what you have. Are you currently do IVF?

Wheatgrass is awful! It tastes like you are eating your yard.  But I take a daily wheatgrass shot because I am desparate for this to work.  Logically, I dont see how anything we do can "change" the quality of our eggs.  I am old, therefore my eggs are old......

CanT - yes, I am on day 5 of stims with IVF #2

Hi MrsK, from what I understand, wheatgrass doesn't improve egg quality, but it may help with ovarian function by lowering FSH, giving you a better response to stimulation...I think.

  • I dunno.  I wonder if what it does is help your eggs mature better under the stress of stims.

Okay, that makes sense - it seems logical that FSH could be affected by something we take in because it is a hormone.  I think I remember reading something about that.  Probably some shady science makes the link between lowering FSH and egg quality, when it really doesnt directly improve egg quality.
Thanks QE!!     How are you feeling???

Duh, I see that now in your siggy. Anyway, I'm sure it doesn't hurt to do whatever you can to help in any way possible. Even if it just helps ease your mind. Wish you the best of luck this cycle!!

I'm feeling a little run down, MrsK. I still have a lot of cramping, fatigue, migraines, and sadness. Thanks for asking :) How are you doing?

Im sorry to hear that you are feeling run down.  Take care of yourself and allow yourself time to heal from all of this.
Im feeling pretty good.  Just really tired...  Im not sure if that is from the stims or if it is from having to get up every day and go for monitoring at 7AM.

This is my understanding as well.

  • if you read "The Infertility Cure" it explains how our eggs "age". its kind of confusing, but it seems like we can improve it by reducing our external toxins and stress. i guess wheat grass might be part of that.?
IVF, acupuncture, meditation and a miracle.
