My BIL is leaving to Afghanistan next week, and it really got me to think about the military overseas. I would love to do this! If anyone would like to join me too...Let me know!
I didn't even know there was such a site!! How awesome! Last spring, my preschool class sent 5 boxes to DH's best friend's unit in Iraq. I'm all about supporting the soldiers!

I'm a member! My H is military and so I like to spread the love to the troops who don't have anyone writing to them or sending them care packages. They LOVE getting letters and stuff from home. Its a great idea!
I thought about doing this when my brother was in the Navy b/c I know how lonely he got and he had pretty constant contact with us. I love the military and support them 115% so I'm in. My only thing is that I wouldn't know what to put in the letters, but if you have any suggestions please tell me! I don't have a lot of extra cash to send packages, but I know they appreciate letters of thanks and support too. Beyond that though, what do you write?

I hope you don't mind if I answer.
Sometimes people just send a card with a prayer and a one liner encouragment statment. Whatever you want to convey to an anonymous troop.
I've taken a big box to work with a list of care package acceptable items and when its full, I send it. No money out of my pocket other than my portion and the postage.
I know several people who become almost like pen pals. Its pretty great.
Hey thanks, I did mean it as open-ended so I'd get suggestions from OP or anyone (sorry to hijack the thread a bit). I just didn't want to be lame like, "Dear AnySoldier, I am sending this to you because....blah blah blah about me...How are you, guy or girl I don't know that's stuck in a war zone?...Hope you stay safe out there....Good luck...Signed, me." Hope I'd get someone who wouldn't be offended by a prayer, even if they weren't Christian, they'd appreciate the good thoughts I'd hope.
