Neighbor accused my DH of messing with his wife!!!

Our neighbors were very good friends of ours and over the past year due to many issues they decided to divorce. We have tried to stay out of it and not choose sides. The other day my DH was speaking with the wife while he was taking care of our yard and she mentioned that she is at a loss as to how to deal with her front lawn because her DH always took care of it. My hubby being a bit of a yard snob had been noticing how overgrown and yucky it was looking and took the opportunity to offer to help. He told me he was going to take care of the front lawn for her and I agreed it was a great idea both because it needs to be done and he would stop obsessing over the overgrown shrubs that dare take away from his glorious landscaped oasis.

Anyway he took care of the yard, she offered him dinner, I was working late that night so he took our two children over for dinner with her and her four children, called me while he was there to ask if I wanted a plate and then brought the kids home put them to bed well before I was home by 8pm.

The husband called the other night on my DH's cellphone at 11;30 at night and started to grill him. He wanted to know why he was at the house, why he was doing her favors and if I "knew how nice he was being to his wife". He just kept saying over and over again that he needed to stay away and all this other drunk rumbling crap. My DH felt bad for him and just kept saying he was mistaken that all it was her giving him and the kids dinner as a thank you for the lawn. I am pissed. I am truly truly pissed but don't know what to do. He wants to drop it and just keep a distance but part of me wants to give him a piece of my mind.

  • Holy sh*t!!!   That is some serious neighbor drama.    I wouldn't give him a piece of your mind though.   He's obviously irrational right now - I think your hubs is right in that you guys should just keep your distance from the whole situation for a while.

  • That sounds like a heap of crazy.

I would just ignore the husband & continue to mind your own when it comes to their divorce.. still be nice to the wife though.. just because that guy has got problems doesn't mean it should cause you any.

  • Wow!  I'd just try to stay out of it.  If your DH wants to keep helping w/her yard though, I say go for it.  Just stay away from her soon to be ex-husband if at all possible.

This exactly. Distance can be good, even if you live next door.
