  I have a handy little seafood guide from www.edf.org/seafood and according to it, clams are perfectly fine.

  I'm from New England but live in Virginia. The week after we found out we were expecting we went up to Cape Cod to vacation and I ate clam chowder like it was my job! I read it was fine...sure hope so!

  Clams that are in chowder are cooked so therefore safe.  That goes for all shellfish.
