That's a toughie. I did get pg 2x with IUIs but they ended in m/c so it was nice to know going into IVF that I can get pg. And since I did 3 cycles of injectables/IUI prior to this 1st IVF, it was nice that the injections weren't foreign territory for me when moving to IVF.
But at the same time, I think maybe we wasted money on so many IUIs when that money could have been used towards IVF.

I guess the only benefit of IUI was at least my Dr. knew going into IVF how I responded to injections.
This! Had I gone straight to IVF my RE would never have put me on the dose of meds I need because of my age. My 3 IUI cycles helped my RE learn how sh!tty I respond and could better tailor my IVF cycle to that.
Funny you mention this, because I was wondering the same thing today. When the nurse called with DH SA results, they said that we could 'try' IUI, and we were 'borderline' due to his low motility and morph.
I read some papers and research that shows that the best rates of success with IUI are people under 30, and normal SA. Neither fits me- 36 next month and MFI as well.
Now that I am on BCP for this stupid cyst- it makes me wonder if we should just go to IVF instead of doing the IUI
Well I kind of do because I wasted 5 months doing clomid and IUI and also my insurance covers IUI and IVF combined which I didn't know so each of those IUI's ate away at my IVF coverage. From my personal experiences I just think IUI's suck - the success rate is so small! LOL I know they work for some people but because of my experience I have a bad taste in my mouth I guess!
But I also think that when I got into this I never imagined I'd need IVF. I knew it wouldn't be easy but I really didn't think we'd need IVF so I guess hindsight is just 20/20!
we are going straight to IVF. Our RE sat us down and told us the truth - with the SA results and my age (will be 34 when we start), the odds of IUI working are slim to none. He would do it if we wanted to, but it would be a waste of our money.
IVF starts in November.
Dx: MFI, DOR, 9 Fibroids and homozygous MTHFR

I think about that a lot. I wish we would have started trying earlier, would have gone to an RE earlier and skipped the IUI's. I start IVF in October so I'm just looking forward to October now.
Re: Do you ever wish you would've went straight to IVF?

I do with I had gone straight to IVF and if I could really rewind, I wish I went to an RE sooner.
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
I'm glad I tried the IUI's because proved I could get pregnant. It also served as an introduction to the world of IF.
If I could do over I would have begun 2 years ago as pper stated.
