I need some opinions?.Here?s the back story for those of you that don?t remember. We are ?unexplained.? We have been TTC for just under 2 years, and are both in our mid 20?s. Ovulation happens on its own without any problems every month. SA came back great showing super sperm. HCG showed clear tubes. Nothing has shown any sort of indication as to what the problem is.
I have down 5 cylces of clomid, 2 TI and 3 IUI?s with and without Triggers. Responded great on all 3 with 2-3 full size follicles, BFN.
I went in today for a follow up appointment and to see what other options we have. RE said that we could keep doing IUI?s but that she would recommend moving on to IVF since nothing has worked so far and she doesn?t know why it would now. I asked about injectibles and she strongly advised against it due to the fact that I am young and don?t have any problem with actually ovulating. She saw this as being a potentially huge problem and maybe resulting in HOM. Then she reviewed the SA from the last IUI and said that this one showed 0% motility, and she is very worried that this might be what the problem is. However, dh has had 4 SA done and this is the only one that showed any problem at all. The others weren?t even close to being low. She said that it doesn?t matter if he has 12 samples done and 11 of the 12 are great, the fact that one of them isn?t shows that that could be our problem. She said the only way to ?fix? this is IVF w/ ICSI. I?m just looking for some imput and help. We have IF coverage up to $10K lifetime but it doesn?t include IVF, and now I feel like that is going to be our only option. Do you think the one low SA is enough to show that this is what is wrong since nothing else has come up? Or would you keep doing IUI's hoping that the one bad SA was a fluke?
Re: Need Some Help....long
I think the first thing I would do is get a repeat SA done in a few weeks. If the motility is still virtually zero then I would consider doing IVF w/ICSI. If it turns out that it was some sort of fluke then I would consider doing IUIs with injects since your insurance covers that.
Going from a completely fine SA to having 0 motility seems pretty strange to me.

Ditto. And regardless of your age & the fact that you O on your own, if you are monitored well and start injectables at a low dose, it may be a good option for you. Injectables are supposed to produce better quality eggs than Clomid.

this. And there's no reason you can't do injectibles w/ IUI and if you're overstimmed convert the cycle to IVF. This way the cost is less, but you're not stuck with a cancelled cycle.
Any idea on cost of and injectible cycle that gets transferred over to IVF? I realize it's different everywhere but a ballpark?
