Infertility

Ladies that are unexplained doing ivf come in

I have done 6 inject iui's without success. My fsh has been good and dh's sperm has been good as well. Basically all of my #'s are looking good BUT i'm still not getting pregnant.

Question is, were you in the same boat and when you did IVF they found out the real reason you weren't getting preg like bad eggs etc?? I mean did you finally get a diagnosis for your infertility???

Any tests you suggest? I have done the LAP last year & the HSG was done about 2 yrs ago. We have been trying for 3.5yrs and nothing...we have been together for 7 yrs and not even a scary preg or an oops before marriage preg. I don't think i've EVER been pregnant.

 I need answers!!!

Thanks!

Re: Ladies that are unexplained doing ivf come in

  • Ugh I can hear your frustration in your post.  I am so sorry.  We are unexplained as well.  TTC for 2+ years, we did have success after 3 short months that ended in a blighted ovum m/c.  Nothing since, and that was two years ago.  For us it has been surreal b/c it was so 'easy' the first time.  We did 2 IUI's and were ready to move onto IVF.  We still don't have an answer, but my RE speculates that it might be something to do with my appendicitis years ago and some scar tissue which is stopping the eggs from making it into the tubes.  This is one of the reasons why we were ready to move to IVF, along with my age being 38.  All of our numbers look good, all tests fine.  While I like the hope that Dx unexplained brings it is frustrating to not have a reason and sometimes I wish we knew the problem so we could fix it.  I encourage you to hold onto hope as difficult as that is.  Have you seen more than one RE?  If I had gone through 6 IUI's with no success I might consider another opinion.  Did you have good numbers of follies during the IUI's?

I would also suggest posting on SAIF and seeing if anyone there found out anything during their treatment cycles.

GL to you girl.  We are here.

  • We are also unexplained and so far we've done 3 failed IVFs. . . still no further diagnosis.  All of our genetic testing, karotyping, RPL, thrombophilia testing has come back completely normal.  Very frustrating.  Hang in there.

  • I am so sorry. Unexplained is so frustrating. I have done 3 IVF"s and one FET and still no diagnosis! We have had every test under the book including karyotyping and genetic testing and all results were totally normal! I have had 3 chemical pregnancies and still no explanation. My egg quality has been good and all other numbers look good. I'm sorry I don't have any answers, but I'm in the same boat. Good luck!
  • In the past 3.5 years I have had a lap and an HSG.  I have minimal endo and no one thinks that has anything to do with our issues.  DH's SAs always show low morph but again not bad enough to be a dx.  I have had one blighted ovum, one missed miscarriage and a c/p or two.  My RE believes these were all chromosomal flukes as the RPL testing we did have was all normal.   When we did do IVF all of our embryos crapped out or didn't fertilize to begin with.  My new RE believes that my protocol was wrong, not that my eggs are bad.

So I completley understand your frustration!  I can't tell you how many times I have wished we had some diagnosis and it didn't even matter which one it was just so we would know.

     My current diagnosis...bad luck

  • we're unexplained and are wondering the exact same thing. We were going to go straight to IVF because our insurance covers it and we're tired of the waiting and the disappointment, but have decided to start with IUI to see if MAYBE they can find something wrong with us in this process.

It is so frustrating and I totally feel your pain. I just wanted to say I'm so sorry and good luck.

  • We are also unexplained which does suck because at least a firm diagnosis would have a difinitive course of action.  As it stands we did two medicated IUI's (one m/c & bfn for second). We decided to move on to IVF based upon my age (38) and not wanting to go another 2.5 years ttc.

As far as testing goes, my dh sa was awesome. My HSG showed some blockage so my RE had me follow up with a SGH and that showed no blockage. These tests were performed prior to the IUI's btw.

    Good Luck..

  • Have they done a clotting panel or insulin resistance?   I've had a half-assed clotting panel, but I want a full work up on that.  Other than that, just the AMH, E2, FSH, LH CD3 workup, but I assume you've done that...

My IVF was textbook perfect until my beta yesterday, but I'm not sure if the RE will have more ideas as I haven't met with him yet.

  • Good question. I am currently unexplained, on my second round of injects and trying to figure out how far I'll go before IVF. And if I should even bother since, well, it's so damn random.

I did get pg my second cycle trying, only to have it end in m/c at 11 weeks.

  • Thanks Ladies!! My RE just called and told me they are also at a loss as to why the iui's are not working (he's my 3rd RE) and he is ordering me a bunch of bloodwork tests like thyroid, chromosome and immune testing and god knows what else. But it's the best right now. I need to know what's wrong with me or my dh that perhaps all the tests we've had haven't shown yet.

    Thanks again !!!
