Working Moms

scary thing happened to a friend this week...

A co-worker just started her 6 month old at a new home childcare on Monday. She picked the baby up from new babysitter on Monday and babywas crying hysterically and there's a bump on baby's head. Mom, being a smart intutive mom, took baby to the hospital after LO won't stop crying. SKULL FRACTURE! Babywas medflighted to a bigger, better hospital and friend's world was turned upside down for a few days. Happy ending (for baby and mom)--LO is now home and it looks like there will be no permanent damage. Babysitter is toast, though, most likely. Still haven't heard the whole story about what police/CPS think is going on, but it's definitely something that goes through every working mom's mind. I keep telling myself "you gotta have faith in people to basically be good" but stories like this really test my beliefs. And follow that mama's intuition about your kids and childcare providers!

  • That's awful.  But I'm glad her baby is OK.

  • I'll add that to my list of stories of why i will never use an in-home daycare provider.  I know there are good ones out there- but there is NO accountability and you hear horrible stories all the time.  Poor baby!

  • Ditto to what Goldie said.  I'm glad that baby is okay.
  • I just got the chills! I'm so glad to hear the LO is doing ok.... thanks for sharing.
  • So scary and I;m so glad the baby is fine. I have to second, third or whatever the comment on home daycares.  I have a lot of friends who use them but it just freaks me out way to much.  I love that in my daycare center, there are cameras in every room so you can see what is going on at all times by sitting in the office.

    This comment gets so old.

My friend pulled her 4 month old from a center because she picked her up one day with a bloody nose in two nostrils, but they didn't know what it was from. She eventually sorted out that the baby took a header out of a bumbo and they either didn't see it, or lied about it.  They have cameras at this center, but didn't "have the tape".

Bad things happen in centers too.  And there IS accountability in most home provider situations.
