Infertility

So I Have Tennis Elbow....

and I don't play tennis, but I've been weight training with free weights and machines. Anyway, I was in so much pain last night and this morning that I decided to go to ER.

My ER doc explained the medication protocol as (Ibuprophen & narcotic) in addition to steroid shots over the course of several weeks. I explained my IF and my fear of taking such meds.  She then began to share her own IVF tx and her sister's IF issues.

The dr. has two children resulting from IVF and her sister has an adopted daughter as IVF wasn't successful for her.  She further stated that IF runs in her family.  I thought how awesome was that for her to share with me!!

I get soooo empowered from IF success stories!!

Re: So I Have Tennis Elbow....

  • That's pretty cool!  I know, both my ER and ET nurses had IVF babies. Ones was pg with her first (and second!)  when I was there. Hope your elbow gets better. If it doesn't you might try to get an order from your doc for OT or PT.

  • I do too...it's like a secret society.  Hope your tennis elbow gets better!
  • I think hearing IF success stories IRL is awesome! It's only happened once or twice, but It made me feel good too. I hope your elbow starts to feel better!

  • Since I am an orthopedic surgeon I can give you some info on how to treat your tennis elbow without meds.  First of all, there are braces that you can use to take pressure off the tendon that is strained.  Second, hold off on weight training until the inflammation calms down.  Third, the most recent studies show that certain types of physical therapy are the most effective treatment for tennis elbow.  In particular eccentric contraction exercises. Fourth, ice, ice and more ice. A therapist can do antiinflammatory modalities too like ultrasound treatments that won't harm you from an IF standpoint.  Try to get your PCP or an ortho to refer you to therapy.  Try to find a woman ortho if you can...they will be more sympathetic to your IF situation most likely.

This is how I had my tennis elbow treated.  Oh, I don't play tennis either so I was shocked when they said that is what I had.  I hope it heals quickly.]
