Has IVF Long Lupron not worked for you? Cancellation possible

I am very sad after my ultrasound and bloodwork appointment this morning. I am on Stim Day 8 of the Long Lupron protocol. My IVF cycle is not going well. While I had 18 follicles initially only about 8 of them have grown, my lead follicle is at 15 after 8 days of Stims. They are estimating only 5 eggs at retrieval and of course not all will be mature or fertilize with ICSI and not all will survive. They said we could end up with no embryos at transfer. So I am waiting to hear from the RE if he is going to cancel the cycle. The nurse said, "I was not at all expecting this at your age", I am 32 and this is the first time I have felt old. She also said next time they will use a different protocol. Next time? They are already talking about next time?

After 20 days of shots this is overwhelming and devastating. If this goes forward they are guessing I will trigger on Sunday with ER on Tuesday and then if there are embies a 3 day transfer not the 5 day transfer they had planned. Has anyone had success will only a few embies total? I want this to go forward since we have come so far and also since maybe we will have one good embie? We are totally OOP so that just adds insult to injury. Thank you for listening and my best to all of you, positives all around

Sorry for the added stress this is causing you, both of my first two IVF's were long lupron and ended in BFN's, the last was antagonist and was the lucky one. That being said, on the last cycle, they retrieved 7 and after checking maturity and fertilization, I had 4 embies left and two of them were my rockstars.

I'm sorry your IVF cycle is not going as planned, but please don't give up hope! It is very possible with five eggs to make it to transfer. I'm sorry that your nurse/RE are being negative about it and I hope you don't get cancelled!

What meds and doses are you on? Long lupron suppressed me too much for IVF#1. We had to add in menopur at the end to try to get things going and I did pick up, but I think that first IVF was pretty much a learning cycle of what not to do. I know a lot of ladies have had success with only a few even 1 embie, so don't lose hope!

I am on Menopur 75 iu and Lupron 5 iu each morning and then Follistim 225 iu each night. Thank you for the kind thoughts and encouragement it really means a lot.

We did the long lupron protocol for IVF #1 and it was a total and complete disaster. I was on lupron for 6 weeks and I believe I oversupressed. Only one embie made it to transfer and it was awful quality. The doctors couldn't believe it and said that my eggs must be crap and I would never get pregnant.

We found a new clinic after that and they NEVER use lupron at all. My new RE thinks it is the absolutle wrong drug to use and that it lowers egg count and quality.

I wish I had been given the option to cancel that cycle.

This sounds just like me...

we ended up canceling our cycle because we were OOP and didn't want to waste money when there was a good chance we wouldn't get any embies. I was 29 at the time!! You can see in my siggy what worked for me when they told me I had no chance of getting pg with my own eggs.

Don't give up...they just might need to try something else. I know it's heartbreaking with all the money spent on meds but for me, Lupron didn't work at all and I was overly supressed.

Oh I am so sorry. I do think you might be able to have success if you move forward with a few embies. You will want to figure out if the risk is worth the cost of the next parts of your cycle (ER and ET) or if you would have better success trying a different protocol. To make that decision I would have a discussion with your RE on the number of follies and likelihood of having any to transfer and if so how many and if so does he also think this affected quality. Update: My RE just called, they are going to wait and see what Sunday's bloodwork and ultrasound look like. He said ultimately it will be our decision whether to continue to egg retrieval. He said if I had three or less follicles growing than that would be a cancellation but this is more borderline. He will call me after reviewing my results on Sunday. He said quality and not quantity is key and having no embryos at transfer can happen even in a perfect IVF cycle. He said I could end up with the same result on any protocol. I am trying to stay positive. I am thinking since we have come so far we will continue on, at least we can feel that we gave it our all even if we end up without any embryos.
