I must be really weird

I see a lot of posts about ladies going to get massages. The idea of a stranger giving me a massage just fleebs me out. We had a free massage day at work once a few years back and I hated the sensation of someone else rubbing my back- I don't mind if it's someone I know, but argh!

I'm the same way with hairdressers washing my hair too... but for some reason manicures and pedicures don't bother me...

Re: I must be really weird

  • You're not weird, I felt the same way till I had one done. I've have two massages, one was done by a man and the other a woman. Both were great and they were both super professional.... I had them done at very reputable spas though so that might have helped.....

  • Yes, you are weird!  JK...

It's not for everyone I guess.  Do whatever is comfortable for you.

  • Normally I'm not for strangers touching me.  But I've been so uncomfortable and totally anxious about not having this baby yet, I'm willing to get over the "ick" factor and try anything that might help.

(I read somewhere that the baby isn't coming because my stress levels is telling LO that it's not safe out here.  Sounds like a crock of sh!t but I'm almost out of regular OWT to try.)

  • I am not a HUGE fan of massages (mani/pedis either) because I don't like the touching thing too much. However, I do think massages are really great for pain and healing and at this point I will do anything to get to lie on my stomach for an hour!?
  • Oh I love it!!! Especially having my hair washed. I've always said that is the reason I wish I were famous - just so that someone else could wash and style my hair everyday.?
  • I don't know where I'd be without massages... JK.  I treat them like I would any other trained health care professional.  I stay away from the "happy ending" jointsStick out tongue

Counterpoint...a lot of people feel like you do!  I don't think it's *weird*

  • I have to admit that I am the exact opposite of you.  I'd rather have a massage done by a stranger (obviously one that knows what they're doing and is professional about it) than someone I know.  The idea of someone I know rubbing on me is a little more bizarre to me than finding a random professional to do it.  Then again, I am the same way with doctors.  I'd rather have some random stranger doing my exams than someone I know.  I couldn't imagine any of my friends (a couple who are medically certified) doing my internal exams.  That'd make for an awkward conversation next time. lol

I dunno, maybe I'm the weird one, but I'd rather have someone that I know nothing about (and can therefor convince myself that they're totally professional) instead of someone I know (because I'd just be laying there thinking 'oh god...i know exactly what's going on in their head right now'). lol  Yep, i think I'm the weird one. :P

  • Ive never gotten a massage but would probably be okay with it, it does weird me out a bit but im sure I would get over it once im "in the zone" of relaxation.

I will not get a pedi, theres just something about it that irks me and I cant get around it.
