3rd Trimester

stupid stupid question- need help...

i've never experienced constipation before but the last three days have been killer for me. My stomach is in constant pain and I don't want to eat anything because I can't go to the bathroom and it makes my stomach hurt even worse.  I don't know what the symptoms of constipation are so could somebody help me out.... and how do you help fix it?

THANKS!

  • I'd call the doc.   Mine put me on a prenatal with a stool softener in it.   It helped a lot.

  • Sadly, a lot of it just has to do with being pregnant.  Your body slows down the digestive process.  However, eat things with lots of fiber, it will help to bind the waste and keep you regular.  Also, drink lots and lots of water.  If nothing else works, I find a cup of coffee normally helps to loosen things up a bit.  good luck!
  • Benefiber and lots of fruit (or 100% apple/prune juice). You can also eat prunes and fiber.

  • Drink lots of water and eat a lot of foods with fiber, oatmeal works well. Take a stool softener and if that doesn't help then talk to your doctor.

  • Constipation occurs when there is abdominal pain or discomfort, difficult and infrequent bowel movements, and the passage of hard stools. You may need to drink plenty of water and eat food that are high in fiber. If you're taking iron supplements, it may be the cause of it.  Prune juice really works well for constipation if you don't want to take any over the counter products. I hope this helps.
  • I've just recently run into this and my tummy/bum hurt so bad it gets painful to sit.  Like pp said, lots of fluids and fruits and veggies.   Having DH rub my lower back while you're on all fours helps with the gas pains.
  • That sucks! Sometimes eating something makes me go. Apples, grapes, oatmeal, prunes, pears, raisin bran..... these will help. As will fruit juices and drinking LOTS of water.

I also take citrucel fiber pills if Im having alot of problems.
