insurance question

Okay ladies I need your help. DH has IF coverage on his insurance- we had 10K total lifetime max- we have maxed that out. He is thinking of moving to another bank that also has IF coverage on their insurance.

Can we still us the new coverage at the new company or because we used it all at other company are we barred from having any more coverage?

I know this is stupid but just wondering. Thanks!

Re: insurance question

  • I think they are totally seperate and since there won't be a lapse in coverage it should be fine.

Is it the same insurance company at new job?

  • Our current one is Aetna and Im pretty sure the new one is Aetna as well. Does that make a difference?

  • Is it a new insurance company?  If so, you will probably get a new max.  But if it is the same insurance company (even if it is a different plan) they will not give you more.

If it is a new company, I would just call them and ask.

  • It really depends on the wording. Some let you carry over coverage some don't, for instance with my old good insurance I would have had 6 Egg retrievals in a lifetime. So that meant they would not cover a retrieval after the 6th, whether I was new to insurance or not...

  • What about if the amounts are different, our current one offers 10K and the new one is 25k, I think they are both Aetna, so would I get the difference of 15k?

  • I would think that you would at least be eligible for the additional amount.
