I'm sure it will become one as the current generation (and a handful before them) become adults. But no, at the moment, I don't see it as an adults name. I think Katherine/Catherine is much more balanced.

It sounds like a perfectly good adult name to me. I know a few Katherines that still go by Katy, and to me that's childlike... but Caitlyn I like for both a little girl and an adult.

I think of cutesy girls names that end in Y and they are stuck with it, like Molly or Holly. Caitlyn is great for both an adult and child. My friend Caitlyn went by Caity growing up.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.

My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Hmmm...I'm thinking that if I knew even one adult Caitlyn I wouldn't have a girly attachment to the name. I do agree with not wanting to stick a kid with an ie or y ending name (in terms of being concerned about adult sounding names)
Personally, I like Caitlin better. But yes, I know many and it suits them well. Some go by Cate, some are Caitlin. They are respectable and professional and beautiful too
I don't see anything unprofessional about Caitlin. I actually know two very well-respected attorneys with that name. I'd use the traditional spelling, though. The Y does make it seem trendy/young to me.
I know what you mean about the "balance" but I don't think Caitlyn has that too cute feel at all. I think it can also be a very grown up name. I think names like Casey, and really anything that ends with a long e sound have that issue a lot more.
My name is Kaitlin. I mostly go by Katie but it makes a great adult name and the older that I get the more people prefer to call me Kaitlin instead of Katie. I think it is totally professional. Don't know what you have for a middle but mine is Leigh, flows nicely I think. Just thought you should know from someone who lives with it everyday...good luck!
I really like that name. I think I would spell it Katelyn though (i think I have a thing with K names). As a kid you can call her Katelyn or Katey. As an an adult you can just go by Kate. Kate is much more sophisticated sounding.
But i agree with others, i think since more names of this style are popular these days, your perception of the name will age along with your daughter.

i know several college aged Caitlyns. And Caitlins. And Katelyns. And Katlyns, and Catelyns...and on and on.
Okay, I know a bunch of Caitlyns. All under 25.
I think that it will be a more recognized and accepted adult name when those Caitlyns start being CEO's.
