How soon after birth did your swelling go down?

I am in wedding a week after and hoping to wear my prepreg shoes and my wedding rings.

Re: How soon after birth did your swelling go down?

  • Not until 2 weeks pp.  The swelling got a lot worse after I delivered.

  • It took at least 2 weeks for me. I *think* it's finally gone but it's so hard to tell. I was able to get my ring on 2 weeks PP. It was tight but it fit.
  • I was puffy for several days afterwards.

Good luck with being in a wedding, if you make it, you kickass in my book.

  • Took me 2 weeks for swelling to go away.  The swelling was 10x worse after giving birth than when I was pregnant.

  • Within a day or 2 my feet weren't swollen at all. It took a week or 2 for engagement ring. I never had a problem with my wedding band.

  • I was really swollen from the IV fluids given during labor but it only lasted 3 days max.  I lost weight pretty quickly after giving birth but I'm BF'ing too.

  • 3wks. But I was given fluids for over 24hours straight, so I think I was more swollen than most people
  • I didn't have any IV or anything and my swelling went down in about 2 or 3 days, my rings didn't fit until about 2 weeks PP.  I lost weight really fast after that.

  • Between the swelling, weight gain, and the heat of the summer, the first time I got my rings on was a week ago and I only tried to put sneakers on recently because I've been living in flip flops.
  • Let me preface this by saying that i believe everyone is different.  But I had major facial, hand, fee, & ankle swelling and now, 2 months later, I still can't fit into my wedding ring...or some of my shoes b/c I am a 1/2 size larger STILL.  And I've already lost 48 of the 60 (gasp) lbs i gained.  ::Fingers Crossed:: that I can wear my ring soon & not have to get it resized =(
  • It took 2 weeks for mine to go down and get my rings on comfortably.
  • I'll be 2 weeks pp tomorrow.  I tried my rings on yesterday and can get them on, but they're still tight.

  • Just one week after?  If this is your first, you may not even have the baby by then!

My swelling lasted for 2 weeks.  In fact, my cankles got worse after DS was born!  I did have surgery, though.  At exactly 13 days PP, my swelling seemed to go down overnight.  I also lost 10 pounds overnight.

  • I still had pretty substantial swelling for 2 or 3 weeks after delivery.  My ring fit but was tight around 2 weeks after delivery.  I think it took a month for it to fit the way it did pre-pg.

This--I never had cankles while pregnant, but I sure got them about a week after she was born.  I could wear my rings about a week and a half after birth.

  • My swelling actually got worse after delivery, I would say it was totally gone down about 3 weeks after.

  • I am still pretty swollen...I am hoping it goes down soon.
  • A wedding a week after your due date?  You might really want to think about a contingency plan in case you can't make it.  Even if you don't have the baby late (and you could easily have the baby 1 week late), you really may not be up for it.  I had a perfect pregnancy, but ended up having major complications with delivery and was in the hospital for 5 days, then once I got home I was not supposed to walk around because I was at risk for falling.  There's no way I could have been at a wedding.

As for swelling -- I was on IV fluids for about 48 hours, so my swelling was insane.  It was fine when I was pregnant, but after delivery my feet were so swollen they were really painful and looked like cabbage patch doll feet -- enormous.  I think it was mostly gone in 2 to 3 weeks, but I still can't get my wedding ring on.

  • As most others have said, my swelling was WAY worse after giving birth (c-section). I took my last Rx diuretic this morning and am hoping I don't swell back up. Took about 2 months to be able to wear my rings and a lot of my pre-pregnancy shoes still don't fit. Good luck, everyone is different!

  • I'm still puffy. My fingers are red and swollen, and my feet are too. Then again, it is about 900 degrees where I live and very humid, and I always puff up in the summer.

  • mine went down immediately (like 2 days after) regarding my feet but I still can't get my rings on (well I can get them on but it hurts).

  • I'm 2 weeks pp today and still swollen. The darn heat isn't helping matters
  • Mine took 6 weeks :-(  It was horrible!
  • Mine is still not all the way gone.
