linning thick, possible polyp in uterus.. put on BCP

At my cd7 sono we found out that my linning was really thick. My RE said he hopes the BCP will thin out the linning, if not I could have a possible uterine polyp and need to have it removed... I'm kinda scared.. Has anyone else had thick linning, took BCP, and the linning thined? or has anyone had the surgery? I've never had surgery so it's kinda freakin me out... any information would be so great!! Thank you!

Re: linning thick, possible polyp in uterus.. put on BCP

  • I had a uterine polyp removed in December. I don't think I had a particularly thick lining associated with my polyp - it was just the polyp. I had an operative hysteroscopy, polypectomy, and d&c. The surgery itself was done one day on an out patient basis. There was no external cutting so the healing time was quite quick. I woke up from the surgery with some cramping that day and spotting for a few days after. The recovery was very easy.

  • I just went the the RE yesterday on CD4. My lining has always been thick, but was extremely thick then. He is also putting me on BCP to thin out my lining. He mentioned that extremely thick lining can be an indicator of endometrial cancer in the future, that is why he suggests being on BCP every single time we are not ttc.

    He never mentioned possible polyps.

  • I have a uterine polyp that I'm having removed tomorrow (hysteroscopy, d&c, poplypectomy and oips) but I don't think mine has anything to do with my lining...my previous cycle I didn't even have a period b/c my lining was so thin..but that cycle I was on BCPs for a cyst, so that's what thinned my lining. So, I guess that in my experience BCPs did thin my lining..but like I said, I don't think my lining caused or has anything to do with the polyp. (FWIW this cycle I have very thick lining.)

  • I had a polyp removed through hysteroscopy a few years ago. It's an outpatient procedure like pp said and it's an easy recovery. My polyp had something called atypia which my gyn said were precancerous cells so I had to get endometrial biopsies every couple of months to monitor it. Like a pp said, I have to be on BCP when not ttc because of an increased risk of endometrial cancer. I think the thickness was called hyperplasia I don't know if that's what you have.
