Calling all RH Incompatible Mommies!

Hi Ladies,

My blood group is 0- and my husband is AB+ so we're faced with a potential RH incompatibility ( me and the babe, that is). So I'm wondering if maybe having a c-section would be "safer" for the baby and for having more babies in the future (G-d willing). What did you do in your RH situation? Calling all Rh mommies!

Re: Calling all RH Incompatible Mommies!

  • No, a c-section is not safer from a RH- standpoint. Just make sure you get the Rhogam shot after you give birth.

  • They gave me Rhogam injections for this problem. Because I'm B-
  • Based on my limited knowledge, I would say definitely no. A major surgery like a c-section is sure to spill more blood than a vag delivery. Also, those shots aren't supposed to be a big deal at all....
  • No. Just get your Rhogam shot and all will be well!
  • I was told that is why I got the Rhogam shot at 28 weeks and will get another after delivery.  No biggy.

  • This is extremely common and definitely not a reason to have a c-section.  You just get the rhogam shot at 28 weeks and again after the baby is born.  Very little risk as long as you get the shots and you will need them regardless of how your baby is born.

    This.

and be grateful that it's an option. Not all antibody incompaltibilities have such an easy solution.

  • All you need is the Rhogam shot and if your baby is not compatible after birth you get another shot for future pregnancies and another during your second pregnancy.  Just got mine last week!  And no, it does not make a difference between C/S or natural...blood is blood...

This. 15% of women need it. Not a big deal. Had my 28 week one today.

  • Why didn't you ask your dr this?
  • For your own future sanity:

    1 ticker per baby please.

    1 badge per theme, please.

The principal of the school of redundancy school will give you detention in 0-6.

And I'm stumped as to why a major surgery is safer for a blood incompatibility.  I've heard stranger things, but I think you're logic is flawed on this one.

    ditto.

i guess i'm not seeing how a c-section is related to Rh.

  • You should have gotten a shot around 28 weeks and will get one again after delivery..

take a deep breath and calm down, it will be ok..

This is not a reason to have a c-section, this baby will be fine, one of the reasons for the shot is so that if you want to have children in the future your body won't reject the baby.

    Same here

  • I gave birth vaginally.  I'm O-, DH is A+, and DS #1 is O+.  I received a Rhogam shot at 28 weeks with DS #1 and post-birth.  Already had the shot this pg (28w) and will have one afterwards this time if DS #2 has a + blood type.
