Pregnant after 35

Good lotion recommendation?

Can anyone recommend a good coco butter lotion?

Re: Good lotion recommendation?

  • I don't use coco butter. I use a body firming lotion. It is philosophy's Amazing Grace firming body emulsion. I used it prior to becoming pg and it has worked well for me so far.

  • I just started the Palmer's lotion for stretch marks, I'm still on the first bottle but it seems to work well so far and I have extremely dry skin.

Thanks!  I also have dry skin and lately its been worse.  I'll be picking it up today : )

  • I have used Mama Mio tummy butter throughout my whole PG and had zero stratech marks.  The only reason I say had is because I just realized two weeks ago that I haven't been applying it to my butt and a few stretch marks popped out. So lesson learned cover from your boobs to your butt!!
  • just FYI - there isn't any lotion that can prevent stretch marks - it's genetic.  BUT as far as dry/itchy skin from pregnancy, I've been using one of the Lubriderm lotions...it's wonderful!  Can't remember which one, but it's one of the extra moisterizing ones.

  • This is my 3rd pregnancy and (so far) I have no belly stretch marks.

I had a similar experience as KD288. With my DD I applied lotion/cream to my belly only and neglected my boobs and hips/butt. Consequently, I ended up with stretch marks where I didn't apply the cream. 2nd time around, with DS, I applied cream (body butter) from boobs to butt - no additional stretch marks - yay! This time around I'm doing the same thing (and crossing my fingers).

People swear that lotion/cream/oil doesn't make a difference but, my genes indicate I would have stretch marks as my mother got them with her pregnancies.

I used coco butter the first time (not crazy about the smell), body butter last time and Aquaphor (because I have a big tub of it) this time. For me, I don't think *what* you use is as important as using something consistently. I like Aquaphor because it's very thick (like Crisco). I apply it right after I shower while my skin is still moist. It seems to really create a barrier and lock in the moisture. My normally very dry skin is very soft and doesn't itch.

    Good luck!

  • so far the Palmer's coco butter for pregnant women is working, no stretch marks, and i am prone to them! and the Palmer's oil for itchy skin helps alot too!
  • I don't use coco butter cream/lotion.  I am using a vitamin E gel.  Been using it since the bump first appeared and have no marks on my stomach, boobs or butt.  I'm not sure that keeping the skin moist can really prevent stretchmarks, but it is much more comforable, so I'll keep doing what I've been doing.

  • LM Naturals oil. it is Australian and works. I was given a sample; it is very $$$ (I think $68 USD/bottle), so I made my own oil for half the price. I started getting stretch marks on my boobs. I put that on, and it made the fade and prevented anymore. I got just a couple very small ones low on my stomach, at 39 w. I'm using it again this time around.

  • A coworker actually just recommended the Cocoa Butter Body Butter from The Body Shop. I plan on picking up a tub of that  this weekend. She said it's thick and rich without being greasy, and it relieved her severely dry and itchy skin, which is what my problem is. I already have stretchmarks from years of yo-yo dieting. So, there's really nothing I can do to prevent/hide them.
