Had a kitchen fire today.
Thankfully it was small, but there was some damage that we just won't be able to have fixed for a while, so we will have to live with it. At least one thing worked in our favor, though. Our dog has been jumping up at the back door to let himself out and sometimes he accidentally locks the screen door. Since I didn't want to get locked out, I unlatched the front door, as I was only going to be gone for a "minute." Thank goodness, because the fire started while I was gone and the alarm went off. The alarm company called the fire dept and they let themselves in through the front door, discovered the fire and were just leaving when I got home two hours later.
This just caps off an already sucktacular week.

Oh no! That really does suck for you. I started a fire in my kitchen with grease 4 years ago this month. It damaged 1/2 of the kitchen and we were out of the house for 2 months living with my mother while it was being fixed. How did your fire start?
What started the fire? Two hours would be a long time I would think!
edited to say that I mean that two hours would seem like a long time for a fire to burn to do not that much damage.
A one of those damn straw things from a Dr. Brown's bottle fell to the bottom of the dishwasher and melted/turned black. When I emptied the dishwasher, I threw it in the trash and walked out the door to go to the grocery store without a second thought. It must have smoldered for a while and finally caught some paper in the trash on fire. We keep our trash can under the kitchen sink so it melted some of the PVC plumbing and burned 3 cupboards.
