3rd Trimester

Dr set my induction date

I just got back from my OB appointment and after measuring my belly my doctor set the date for baby girl to exit the womb.  It is tentatively scheduled for September 4 and I have an appointment on September 3 where he will check my progress and confirm everything, so unless I go into labour on my own, it looks like my induction will be September 4, which is a long weekend.  It almost seems to perfect because it is the long weekend so hopefully I don't get bumped.

I checked my chart after I left and baby is meausuring on track where in previous weeks she was measuring ahead by at least a week, so it looks like her growth is starting to slow down.

I would love to go into labour on my own but it is nice having a end date in sight!

ETA: I have Single Umbilical Artery (SUA) which is why my doctor is inducing me early.

I'm very curious about inductions. Why did your Dr. schedule you for one?

Any reasons? Based on her size?

I have what is called Single Umbilical Artery, the umbilical cord only has two vessels instead of three so there is a concern for IUGR and a higher risk of stillbirth so my doctor wants to get her out sooner rather than later.

  • Hi, There!

I also have SUA, and started weekly NST's about 3 weeks ago.  Baby Boy is measuring in the 50th percentile, and we have another growth ultrasound scheduled at 36 weeks to make sure he is still on track for growth (doc said he has to drop BELOW the 20th percentile for them to become concerned).  So, my doctor has mentioned nothing to me yet about induction, nor have they really mentioned anything to me about the high risk of still birth (although I have read plenty about it on the web).  GREAT.  I would love to chat more with you about your experience so far with SUA. I had posted something a few months back in the midst of my FREAKING out, and didn't get very many responses. I'm curious to see if I should talk to my doctor about induction.  I'm just starting to get very anxious everyday that he well and kicking knowing that he could make an entrance any day now and have little chance of exhibiting any of the long-term effects that some preemies have.   Once again...would love for you to share your experience with me.

We did see a specialist around week 24, and then again at week 28 to rule out any other markers.  So, now its just a matter of monitoring his growth and making sure that he is not under any sort of stress.

    Talk to you soon.
