NBR: Shark Steam Mop...

If you have one, do you like it or not?  I tried googling and got pretty bad reviews, but I thought I'd heard some raves on here...

And I tried the search function (you know how that goes...) and boardreader.com but it didn't have any posts from the bump/nest.

I just really hate my hardwood floors....with DD eating table food they are always dirty and I hate how I currently clean them (with a very dry mop = lots of wringing) AND they still look like crap after.

I`ll also post this on the house cleaning Nest board.....TIA

    love it.

    I really like that we can clean the floors without chemicals. It does have a short cord, but thats a small issue IMO

    I love it for the hard wood. Not so much on the tiles though. But thats just my tiles. We have tiles that have ridges in them so everything gets stuck to them. Plus they are white. WTF puts in white tile kitchen floors? My landlord. Thats who!!! lol

    WTF puts hardwood in the kitchen? The previous owners of our house, that's who!  It drives me INSANE...especially in summer when no one wears socks. Plus now that DD is crawling all over there are little handprints everywhere in addition to adult foot prints.  Blech....

    DH is in the hardwood flooring industry, so I'm just going to throw in my $0.02 'cause I hear him preaching about floors all.the.time. Wink

    The best product to use to clean hardwoods is a Bona Cleaning Kit.  The cleaner is "environmentally responsible and non-toxic".  You can buy them at hardware stores, flooring stores, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, etc.  The cleaner doesn't leave a residue on your floors, which also means that you will have no problems refinishing the floors down the road (products like Orange Glo or Old English reek havoc floors, causing them to be basically trashed when it's time to refinish...a costly problem!).
    DH isn't completely against something like a steam mop, but he thinks that over time that the combination of temperature and moisture may cause a problem with your wood and/or the finish.  Also, in the case of a mishap with a steam mop, if a large amount of hot water was to spill onto your hardwood floors, you could have a major problem.  So overall, a steam cleaner is okay for occasional cleaning of HW floors, but the Bona cleaner is better for everyday/every week cleaning.  It's all we use (along with sweeping the floor of course), and I have to say I love it.
    DH is not at all affiliated with Bona or anything, he just believes in their product.

    And PS...I love having hardwoods in my kitchen, so much kinder on my feet/legs/back when cooking than tile!  JMO though Wink
